Strike Three! A Baseball Book You Won't Want To Miss Byline: Russ Cohen 2008-10-14
This book re-lives my real experience during the Major League Baseball strike of 1994 and why I decided to play against the enormous pressures of the Major League Players Union - to unify all professional players within one union, from the minor leagues to the majors. Any player who dares to play this "Game" must read this book and share it someday with their grandkids. You will never forget this.
The book deals with the cancellation of the 1994 World Series and the replacement players who followed. Both of these events were historic and Riesgo was one of the first players to cross the preverbal picket line and put his career on the line for the good of the game.
Read about the business of baseball and all that goes along with that like the “steroid era” and the collectibles market. Many former players are quoted in this book!
Check out this excerpt from the book that deals with my days with the Phillies.
“It was really a great weekend for me. One of the Mets fans who followed my career basically down in St. Lucie, with the St. Lucie Mets, was able to set up transportation and everything to go to Philly and see the last games of the series. See how they do and just give me a chance to see the team, which was great for me since the organization just traded for me,” Riesgo said, now that his minor league season had ended. “They traded Tommy Herr and they wanted me and I wanted to take a look at Philly because I didn’t know too much about Philly.”
If you love the “Grand Ole Game” then join the club and get ready for this book because it will knock you down like a Bob Gibson brush back pitch.
"We've just got to go out there and win games. We're just trying to rack up wins, and see if we can get enough of them to get to the next level."
- JD Drew, Boston Red Sox
